How Canva writes PDFs

  • • Designs are exported with subset fonts, many of them Google Fonts.
  • • Each text box is placed on its own, often line by line.
  • • Shapes and images are layered around the text.

What that means when you edit a footnote

  • • Most Canva fonts are open, so new letters match. Each text box reflows inside its own box, and shapes behind the text are left alone.

What happens to the rest of the page

  • • Small footnote text keeps its size and superscript numbers.
  • • Footnotes near the page edge stay inside the page.

Questions people ask

+Can I renumber footnotes?

Edit the numbers yourself; they are ordinary text in the PDF.

+Is it better to edit in Canva?

If you have the original Canva file and a lot to change, yes. For quick changes to the PDF itself, editing the PDF is faster and keeps it exactly as sent.
