Edit a sentence in a LaTeX PDF

Rewrite a sentence in the middle of a paragraph and let the paragraph rewrap around it. This works on the PDF LaTeX exported, so you do not need the original file.

How to do it

  1. 1.Open the PDF exported from LaTeX in MythosPDF.
  2. 2.Select the sentence and type the new wording.
  3. 3.Press Enter to save the line, then Export PDF.

How LaTeX writes PDFs

  • • pdfTeX embeds Type1 fonts such as Computer Modern.
  • • Kerning and ligatures are written into each line.
  • • Equations are built from many small pieces.

What that means when you edit a sentence

  • • Body text and headings edit well; kerning is preserved around your change. Equations are best changed in the source and recompiled.
  • • LaTeX often uses fonts that are not freely available. Letters already in the PDF are reused exactly; for a letter it never used, MythosPDF asks before using the closest open font and tells you which one.

What happens to the rest of the page

  • • The paragraph rewraps inside its own width. If it grows by a line, the text below moves down by exactly one line.
  • • Hyphenation and justified spacing follow the paragraph's existing look.

Questions people ask

+What if the new sentence is longer?

The paragraph rewraps and everything below it moves down evenly. If the page is full, the overflow continues on a new page.

+Is it better to edit in LaTeX?

If you have the original LaTeX file and a lot to change, yes. For quick changes to the PDF itself, editing the PDF is faster and keeps it exactly as sent.
