Typing Tamil

The editor has a built in Tamil keyboard: press the अ/A button while editing and type Tamil letters by clicking, next to your normal keyboard. Characters to check after editing: ஸ்ரீ, க்ஷ.

Which font new Tamil text uses

First the font your PDF already uses for Tamil, even when only a few of its letters are embedded: MythosPDF loads the complete font and sets new letters in it. If the PDF has no Tamil font at all, it asks before adding an open Noto font for those letters, and tells you it did. Tamil is a shaped script, so each word is shaped with the full font before it is written, and the real letters are stored so the text stays searchable.

Questions people ask

+Can I edit equations?

Equations are drawn from many small pieces and are best changed in the source document.

+Can I make the file smaller for submission portals?

Yes. Compress PDF shrinks images and keeps text sharp.

+Can I write parts of the research paper in Tamil and parts in English?

Yes. Each language is set in the font the PDF uses for it, so a bilingual research paper keeps both fonts.
