Change a name in a scanned cover letter

A cover letter is mostly the same from one application to the next. The parts that must change, like the date, the hiring manager, the company and the paragraph about the role, can be edited straight in the PDF. Update a name on a scanned letter, form or draft you are entitled to change.

How to do it

  1. 1.Drop your scanned PDF into MythosPDF. The words on each page become clickable boxes.
  2. 2.Click the first word, Shift+click to extend along the line, then double click or press Enter and type the new text.
  3. 3.Press Enter to apply the change, then Export PDF.

What people change in a cover letter

  • • Date and recipient address
  • • Hiring manager's name in the greeting
  • • Company name throughout the body
  • • The paragraph on why this role
  • • Your signature above your typed name

Good to know

  • • Changes replace words within one line. A longer replacement moves the rest of that line along; adding new lines or deleting words is not available on scans.
  • • Handwriting, and print in a font that cannot be identified, cannot be redrawn, so the edit is refused.
  • • If the new text would touch a stamp, signature or line, MythosPDF refuses instead of smudging it.
  • • Text is read in English, so other scripts are not editable on scans yet.

Questions people ask

+Can I change names on official records?

No. Only change documents you own or may change. Altering official records such as IDs or certificates is fraud.

+What if a word cannot be changed invisibly?

You get the exact reason, such as a stamp in the way or a font that could not be identified, instead of a smudged page.
