Add a bullet point in a LibreOffice PDF

Add another item to a bulleted list, with the same marker and spacing as the others. This works on the PDF LibreOffice exported, so you do not need the original file.

How LibreOffice writes PDFs

  • • Export embeds subset fonts, often Liberation or DejaVu.
  • • Paragraphs are written line by line.

What that means when you add a bullet point

  • • LibreOffice's default fonts are open, and Liberation fonts have the same widths as Arial, Times New Roman and Courier New, so edits match exactly.
  • • Because LibreOffice uses open fonts, any letter you type is set in the exact same font, even if the PDF never contained it.

What happens to the rest of the page

  • • The new bullet copies the list's marker, indent and line spacing.
  • • Items below move down to make room.

Questions people ask

+Where does the new bullet go?

Directly below the bullet you clicked, and the items below move down.

+Is it better to edit in LibreOffice?

If you have the original LibreOffice file and a lot to change, yes. For quick changes to the PDF itself, editing the PDF is faster and keeps it exactly as sent.
