Change a word in a Adobe InDesign PDF
Swap one word for another straight in the PDF, in the same font, size and colour as the words around it. This works on the PDF Adobe InDesign exported, so you do not need the original file.

How Adobe InDesign writes PDFs
- • Fonts are embedded as subsets, often OpenType CFF.
- • Text frames can be threaded across columns.
- • Precise kerning and tracking are written into lines.
What that means when you change a word
- • Kerning and tracking are kept around your edit. Many InDesign fonts are commercial, so new letters come from the PDF or, with your permission, a close open font.
- • Adobe InDesign often uses fonts that are not freely available. Letters already in the PDF are reused exactly; for a letter it never used, MythosPDF asks before using the closest open font and tells you which one.
What happens to the rest of the page
- • A longer word can push the rest of the line along or wrap it onto the next line, just as a word processor would.
- • Words in bold or underlined keep that style when you retype them.
Questions people ask
+Can I replace the same word everywhere?
Edit each place where it appears. Each edit keeps its own line's layout.
+Is it better to edit in Adobe InDesign?
If you have the original Adobe InDesign file and a lot to change, yes. For quick changes to the PDF itself, editing the PDF is faster and keeps it exactly as sent.
