Change a name in a Adobe InDesign PDF
Update a person's or organisation's name wherever it appears, in the same typeface as before. This works on the PDF Adobe InDesign exported, so you do not need the original file.

How Adobe InDesign writes PDFs
- • Fonts are embedded as subsets, often OpenType CFF.
- • Text frames can be threaded across columns.
- • Precise kerning and tracking are written into lines.
What that means when you change a name
- • Kerning and tracking are kept around your edit. Many InDesign fonts are commercial, so new letters come from the PDF or, with your permission, a close open font.
- • Adobe InDesign often uses fonts that are not freely available. Letters already in the PDF are reused exactly; for a letter it never used, MythosPDF asks before using the closest open font and tells you which one.
What happens to the rest of the page
- • A longer name pushes the words after it along the line; right aligned names grow to the left.
- • Names often contain letters the PDF has not used yet, like Z, Q or accented letters. The complete font is loaded for them.
Questions people ask
+Should I change names on official documents?
Only on documents you are entitled to change, such as your own drafts, templates and letters.
+Is it better to edit in Adobe InDesign?
If you have the original Adobe InDesign file and a lot to change, yes. For quick changes to the PDF itself, editing the PDF is faster and keeps it exactly as sent.
