How macOS Preview and Print writes PDFs

  • • Uses the macOS PDF engine with subset fonts.
  • • Fonts are often Apple system fonts.

What that means when you change line spacing

  • • Letters already embedded are reused; for new letters in Apple fonts, you choose whether to use a close open font.

What happens to the rest of the page

  • • Spacing changes in half point steps.
  • • Content below moves by the total change.
