PDF problem
White box behind edited text in a PDF
SymptomAfter editing, a white rectangle is visible around the new text, or selecting the area reveals the old words.
Why it happens
- •The editor covered the old text with a white box instead of removing it.
- •The page background isn't white, so the cover shows.
How to fix it
Start again from the original
Open the original PDF, not the edited copy, in an editor that rewrites text in place. The old text is removed rather than covered.
Check for hidden text
Search the edited file for the old words. If they're found, the old text is still in the file.
Free, in your browser, no sign up and no watermark.
Open PDF editorQuestions people ask
+Is the old text a privacy risk?
Yes. Anyone can select, copy or search text hidden under a box.
+Can I remove the box from the edited file?
It's easier and safer to redo the edit from the original PDF.
