PDF glossary
CropBox
The part of a PDF page that readers display and print; content outside it is hidden but not deleted.
A page has a MediaBox (the full sheet) and optionally a CropBox (the visible area). Cropping a PDF usually just changes the CropBox.
Coordinates in a PDF are relative to the MediaBox, so the visible area can start anywhere.
