PDF glossary
WinAnsiEncoding
A single byte text encoding used by simple PDF fonts, close to Windows code page 1252.
Simple fonts map each byte to a glyph through an encoding. WinAnsiEncoding covers Latin letters, digits, common punctuation and many Western European accented letters.
Characters outside it, such as most non Latin scripts, need a different font type.
