Edit Calibri text in a Microsoft Word printout

The Office default from 2007 until Aptos replaced it in 2023. Microsoft Word printouts saved with Microsoft Print to PDF often hold it as drawn shapes. MythosPDF turns them back into text in the same look.

How Microsoft Word prints

  • • Printing from Word sends the laid out page to the driver, so the PDF looks exactly like the print preview.
  • • Microsoft 365 uses Aptos by default; documents from before 2023 usually use Calibri or Times New Roman.
  • • Tables print as lines drawn around positioned text.

New letters in Calibri

  • • Letters that are already on the page are reused exactly as printed.
  • • Carlito is an open font with the same letter widths as Calibri. For a letter the printout never used, MythosPDF uses the twin when it recognises the face, and otherwise asks before using the closest open font.

Questions people ask

+Why can't I select text in my Microsoft Print to PDF file?

The driver often draws every letter as a shape instead of writing text. MythosPDF reads those shapes and turns them back into real text before you edit.

+Will the page look different after recovery?

No. The rebuilt text uses the document's own letter outlines, and every page is compared with the original before you edit.
