How Microsoft Excel writes PDFs
- • Cells become positioned text with grid lines drawn around them.
- • Numbers are right aligned inside their cells.
- • Each sheet area becomes one or more pages.
What that means when you delete text
- • Numbers in cells keep their right alignment as you edit. Formulas are not kept in a PDF, so totals must be updated by hand.
What happens to the rest of the page
- • The text is truly removed from the file, not covered with a white box.
- • Deleting a paragraph pulls the content below it up by the space it used.
Questions people ask
+Is deleted text really gone?
Yes. The characters are removed from the page, so they cannot be copied or searched afterwards.
+Is it better to edit in Microsoft Excel?
If you have the original Microsoft Excel file and a lot to change, yes. For quick changes to the PDF itself, editing the PDF is faster and keeps it exactly as sent.
