Fix a typo in a Microsoft Excel PDF

A single wrong letter is the most common reason to edit a PDF. Fixing it should change that letter and nothing else. This works on the PDF Microsoft Excel exported, so you do not need the original file.

How to do it

  1. 1.Open the PDF exported from Microsoft Excel in MythosPDF.
  2. 2.Put the cursor on the wrong letter, delete it and type the right one.
  3. 3.Press Enter to save the line, then Export PDF.

How Microsoft Excel writes PDFs

  • • Cells become positioned text with grid lines drawn around them.
  • • Numbers are right aligned inside their cells.
  • • Each sheet area becomes one or more pages.

What that means when you fix a typo

  • • Numbers in cells keep their right alignment as you edit. Formulas are not kept in a PDF, so totals must be updated by hand.

What happens to the rest of the page

  • • Only the words you touch are rewritten. The rest of the line keeps its exact position and spacing.
  • • If the correct letter was never used anywhere in the file, MythosPDF loads the complete font so the letter matches.

Questions people ask

+Will fixing one letter move the rest of the paragraph?

Only if the word gets wider or narrower. Then the words after it on that line shift by exactly the difference, and nothing else moves.

+Is it better to edit in Microsoft Excel?

If you have the original Microsoft Excel file and a lot to change, yes. For quick changes to the PDF itself, editing the PDF is faster and keeps it exactly as sent.
