Edit a clause in a LibreOffice PDF

Reword a clause in a draft agreement while keeping the numbering and layout. This works on the PDF LibreOffice exported, so you do not need the original file.

How to do it

  1. 1.Open the PDF exported from LibreOffice in MythosPDF.
  2. 2.Edit the clause text.
  3. 3.Compare with the previous draft, then Export PDF.

How LibreOffice writes PDFs

  • • Export embeds subset fonts, often Liberation or DejaVu.
  • • Paragraphs are written line by line.

What that means when you edit a clause

  • • LibreOffice's default fonts are open, and Liberation fonts have the same widths as Arial, Times New Roman and Courier New, so edits match exactly.
  • • Because LibreOffice uses open fonts, any letter you type is set in the exact same font, even if the PDF never contained it.

What happens to the rest of the page

  • • Clause numbers stay where they are; the text rewraps beside them.
  • • Use Compare to show the other side exactly what you changed.

Questions people ask

+Can I track changes?

Compare the old and new PDFs to see every change side by side.

+Is it better to edit in LibreOffice?

If you have the original LibreOffice file and a lot to change, yes. For quick changes to the PDF itself, editing the PDF is faster and keeps it exactly as sent.
