Edit a heading in a LaTeX PDF

Change a heading or section title and keep its size, weight and colour. This works on the PDF LaTeX exported, so you do not need the original file.

How LaTeX writes PDFs

  • • pdfTeX embeds Type1 fonts such as Computer Modern.
  • • Kerning and ligatures are written into each line.
  • • Equations are built from many small pieces.

What that means when you edit a heading

  • • Body text and headings edit well; kerning is preserved around your change. Equations are best changed in the source and recompiled.
  • • LaTeX often uses fonts that are not freely available. Letters already in the PDF are reused exactly; for a letter it never used, MythosPDF asks before using the closest open font and tells you which one.

What happens to the rest of the page

  • • Headings keep their alignment: centred headings stay centred.
  • • A heading that grows onto two lines pushes the section down.

Questions people ask

+Can I make a heading bold?

Select it and press B. If the font has no bold style, MythosPDF asks before imitating one.

+Is it better to edit in LaTeX?

If you have the original LaTeX file and a lot to change, yes. For quick changes to the PDF itself, editing the PDF is faster and keeps it exactly as sent.
