How Apple Pages writes PDFs
- • Export uses the macOS PDF engine with subset fonts.
- • Some subsets use custom character codes described only by their text map.
- • Word spaces are sometimes positioning rather than space characters.
What that means when you edit the footer
- • MythosPDF decodes custom character codes through the font's own text map and handles spaces written as positioning. Apple system fonts are not open, so new letters use what the PDF contains, or a close open font with your permission.
- • Apple Pages often uses fonts that are not freely available. Letters already in the PDF are reused exactly; for a letter it never used, MythosPDF asks before using the closest open font and tells you which one.
