Edit an Adobe InDesign project report PDF

Reports are exported, reviewed, and corrected. Fix a figure, update a status or reword a finding in the PDF without regenerating it. If it was made in Adobe InDesign, you can edit the PDF itself. Kerning and tracking are kept around your edit. Many InDesign fonts are commercial, so new letters come from the PDF or, with your permission, a close open font.

What people change in a project report

  • • Figures in tables
  • • Status and dates
  • • Wording of findings
  • • Names in the distribution list
  • • Page numbers and cover details

How Adobe InDesign writes PDFs

  • • Fonts are embedded as subsets, often OpenType CFF.
  • • Text frames can be threaded across columns.
  • • Precise kerning and tracking are written into lines.

Tables and numbers

Change values cell by cell; right aligned numbers stay aligned. Totals are not recalculated, so update them too.

Charts are drawings

Charts are vector drawings or images, not live data. To change a chart, replace its image.
