Change a website address in a LibreOffice PDF

Update the web address printed on a brochure, flyer or letterhead, and the link behind it. This works on the PDF LibreOffice exported, so you do not need the original file.

How LibreOffice writes PDFs

  • • Export embeds subset fonts, often Liberation or DejaVu.
  • • Paragraphs are written line by line.

What that means when you change a website address

  • • LibreOffice's default fonts are open, and Liberation fonts have the same widths as Arial, Times New Roman and Courier New, so edits match exactly.
  • • Because LibreOffice uses open fonts, any letter you type is set in the exact same font, even if the PDF never contained it.

What happens to the rest of the page

  • • The printed text and the clickable link are separate. Update both.
  • • Addresses are set in the same font as before.

Questions people ask

+Does the printed address have to match the link?

It should. Readers of a printed copy only see the text.

+Is it better to edit in LibreOffice?

If you have the original LibreOffice file and a lot to change, yes. For quick changes to the PDF itself, editing the PDF is faster and keeps it exactly as sent.
