How Microsoft Excel writes PDFs
- • Cells become positioned text with grid lines drawn around them.
- • Numbers are right aligned inside their cells.
- • Each sheet area becomes one or more pages.
What that means when you add a table row
- • Numbers in cells keep their right alignment as you edit. Formulas are not kept in a PDF, so totals must be updated by hand.
- • Microsoft Excel tables keep their drawn borders; new or removed rows follow them.
What happens to the rest of the page
- • Borders, shading and dividers of the new row copy the table's own.
- • Rows below move down to make space; a full page continues on the next.
Questions people ask
+Are totals updated?
No. A PDF does not calculate. Update totals yourself.
+Is it better to edit in Microsoft Excel?
If you have the original Microsoft Excel file and a lot to change, yes. For quick changes to the PDF itself, editing the PDF is faster and keeps it exactly as sent.
