LaTeX resume: fix a typo on your resume

One misspelled word can cost an interview. Fix it in the PDF without touching anything else. This works on the PDF LaTeX exported. Small fixes to bullets, dates and links can be made in the PDF with kerning kept. Large rewrites are cleaner in the source.

How to do it

  2. 2.Put the cursor on the wrong letter, delete it and type the right one.
  3. 3.Press Enter to save the line, then Export PDF.

How LaTeX writes resume PDFs

  • • pdfTeX embeds Type1 fonts such as Computer Modern or Latin Modern.
  • • Kerning and ligatures are written into each line.
  • • Resume classes draw rules and align dates with precise spacing.

What happens to the rest of your resume

  • • Only the words you touch are rewritten; the rest of the line keeps its exact spacing.
  • • If the right letter was never used in the file, the complete font is loaded so it matches.

Questions people ask

+Will anyone see that the resume was edited?

No. The corrected word is set in the resume's own font at the same position.

+Is it better to edit in LaTeX?

If you still have the LaTeX version and a lot to change, yes. For a quick fix to the PDF you already sent, editing the PDF is faster.
