Google Docs resume: fix a typo on your resume

One misspelled word can cost an interview. Fix it in the PDF without touching anything else. This works on the PDF Google Docs exported. Google Docs fonts are open, so any letter you type matches exactly, and invisible line end characters never leave stray spaces.

How Google Docs writes resume PDFs

  • • Download as PDF embeds Google Fonts as subsets.
  • • Lines often end with an invisible zero width space.
  • • Text is positioned word by word.

What happens to the rest of your resume

  • • Only the words you touch are rewritten; the rest of the line keeps its exact spacing.
  • • If the right letter was never used in the file, the complete font is loaded so it matches.

Questions people ask

+Will anyone see that the resume was edited?

No. The corrected word is set in the resume's own font at the same position.

+Is it better to edit in Google Docs?

If you still have the Google Docs version and a lot to change, yes. For a quick fix to the PDF you already sent, editing the PDF is faster.
