Microsoft Word resume: add a line to your resume

Add a line inside a block, such as a second phone number or another course. This works on the PDF Microsoft Word exported. Word resumes edit cleanly: bold titles, italic dates and bullets are recognised. Calibri and Cambria have open clones with identical widths; Aptos gets the closest open font only with your permission.

How Microsoft Word writes resume PDFs

  • • Save as PDF embeds only the letters used, as subset TrueType fonts.
  • • Each run of formatting is written as its own piece of text.
  • • Tables and rules are drawn as lines around positioned text.

What happens to the rest of your resume

  • • New lines belong to existing text and follow its style.
  • • Text boxes on empty parts of the page are not supported.

Questions people ask

+Can I type anywhere on the page?

No. New text joins an existing line, bullet or block so it matches the design.

+Is it better to edit in Microsoft Word?

If you still have the Microsoft Word version and a lot to change, yes. For a quick fix to the PDF you already sent, editing the PDF is faster.
