Microsoft Word resume: add a bullet point to your resume

Add a new achievement under a job, with the same bullet, indent and spacing as the rest. This works on the PDF Microsoft Word exported. Word resumes edit cleanly: bold titles, italic dates and bullets are recognised. Calibri and Cambria have open clones with identical widths; Aptos gets the closest open font only with your permission.

How Microsoft Word writes resume PDFs

  • • Save as PDF embeds only the letters used, as subset TrueType fonts.
  • • Each run of formatting is written as its own piece of text.
  • • Tables and rules are drawn as lines around positioned text.

What happens to the rest of your resume

  • • The new bullet copies the list's marker, hanging indent and line spacing.
  • • Everything below moves down to make room, and moves to the next page only if it has to.

Questions people ask

+What if my resume uses drawn bullets?

Bullets drawn as shapes, common in online builders, are recognised and copied like text bullets.

+Is it better to edit in Microsoft Word?

If you still have the Microsoft Word version and a lot to change, yes. For a quick fix to the PDF you already sent, editing the PDF is faster.
