Microsoft Word resume: change your name on your resume
Update your name after marriage, or use the name you go by. This works on the PDF Microsoft Word exported. Word resumes edit cleanly: bold titles, italic dates and bullets are recognised. Calibri and Cambria have open clones with identical widths; Aptos gets the closest open font only with your permission.

How Microsoft Word writes resume PDFs
- • Save as PDF embeds only the letters used, as subset TrueType fonts.
- • Each run of formatting is written as its own piece of text.
- • Tables and rules are drawn as lines around positioned text.
What happens to the rest of your resume
- • The name keeps its size, weight and colour.
- • A centred name stays centred.
Questions people ask
+What if my new name uses letters the font never had?
The complete font is loaded; for fonts that are not open, you are asked before a close open font is used.
+Is it better to edit in Microsoft Word?
If you still have the Microsoft Word version and a lot to change, yes. For a quick fix to the PDF you already sent, editing the PDF is faster.
