Microsoft Word resume: make text bold on your resume

Make a title, company or number stand out, or turn stray bold back to regular. This works on the PDF Microsoft Word exported. Word resumes edit cleanly: bold titles, italic dates and bullets are recognised. Calibri and Cambria have open clones with identical widths; Aptos gets the closest open font only with your permission.

How Microsoft Word writes resume PDFs

  • • Save as PDF embeds only the letters used, as subset TrueType fonts.
  • • Each run of formatting is written as its own piece of text.
  • • Tables and rules are drawn as lines around positioned text.

What happens to the rest of your resume

  • • The real bold style of the same family is used when it exists.
  • • If there is no bold style, MythosPDF asks before imitating one.

Questions people ask

+Should I bold numbers in bullets?

Sparingly. One bold figure per bullet draws the eye; more is noise.

+Is it better to edit in Microsoft Word?

If you still have the Microsoft Word version and a lot to change, yes. For a quick fix to the PDF you already sent, editing the PDF is faster.
